If you’re new to vacation rental ownership, advice is floating around on the internet everywhere. But one thing is for sure… if you’re ready to jump into the vacation rental market, you’re going to have to furnish that wonderful home sooner rather than later. So what decorating tips can we offer to help you achieve the right look and feel while keeping your budget under control?
You never want to think about a future guest damaging your vacation rental’s furnishings, but look at your own home. We all have trips, falls and unexpected spills. Here at Evolve, we protect our owner’s from loss with our Accidental Rental Damage Protection policy, but it’s still a smart idea to furnish your vacationrental with wear and tear in mind so we’ve put together a list of great decorating tips that won’t break the bank.
Sofa Slipcovers: These aren’t the sofa covers you used to see in your grandmother’s home. Today’s slipcovered sofas are incredibly stylish and stores like Room and Board, IKEA, and CB2 offer cost-effective options that look fantastic. Some styles let you zip off the cushion covers and throw them in the wash. Others offer a single, fitted cover that goes over the entire piece of furniture. We think slipcovers are a great option for vacation rentals, as a new cover can make an older sofa look like new in a flash.
Trendy Rugs: Again, we’ll mention IKEA but also add RugsDirect into the mix for our favorite cost-effective and stylish rugs. Target is a pretty decent choice as well, yet they don’t offer many shapes other than oblong. A modestly-priced rug can be easily steam-cleaned or even thrown into the washing machine, making it pet-safe and people-safe for your vacation rental.
Classic Lamps: Shed some light on your vacation rental with options from stores like IKEA, CB2, Crate and Barrel, and West Elm. We’re particular fond of West Elm’s sale section as they always have styles you won’t find anywhere else and at a considerable savings and will ship all over the country. Most lamps and sconces these days will also accommodate compact florescent bulbs, making your cost savings even greater.
Kitchenware: Head to your local Bed, Bath, and Beyond – there, you’ll find things like plates, flatware, and wine glasses in case quantity. Nothing makes guests feel more at home than walking into a kitchen completely stocked with everything they need for a nice meal at home. And the case quantities make it easy to stock cabinets with enough settings for 8 guests or more! For more tips on stocking your kitchen, be sure to check our blog post on the topic.
